    Piega system help

Hi, first I woul like to mention that I am very very new to the hifi world and I am sorry for posting in English.

I recently bought an Piega PS1 subwoofer and two Piega S3 sat speakers. From what I could find here http://www.piega.ch/download/Piega_History.pdf, the specifications for the S3 sat speakers are:

    Construction time: 1997 - 2005
    Model: 2-way satellite loudspeaker
    Recommended
    Amplifier output: 20-150 Watt
    Sensitivity: 88 db/W/m
    Impedance: 4 Ohm
    Frequency range: 100 Hz-22 kHz +/-3 dB
    Crossover frequencies: 2.5 kHz
    Equipment: 1 x 8 cm LDS bass woofer, 1 x 26 mm LDS dome
    Dimensions (HxWxD): 20 x 10 x 12 cm
    Weight: 2 kg

And, as you probably know, the Piega PS1 subwoofer has the following: http://www.piega.ch/e/produkte/ps1.htm

From the research I done, I would need a receiver or a preamp. What I am not sure about is what specifications of power, sensitivity and impedance the unit should have.

Like I said I am very new to the game and for the moment, due to budget limitations, I will only use the two S3 sat speakers. I am not looking for high volume but more for a good sound. Also, should I connect the two speakers to the PS1 subwoofer or directly to the receiver or preamp.

Any help will be much appreciated and some drinks if you'll find yourself through Copenhagen at some point.

You will need power-amplification: the Subwoofer's power-amplifier can't drive the satellites. So in case you are hungry for separate preamp, you would need dedicated power-amps as well.

What do you want to do? Home-Cinema? Or bass-improvement for sheer music?

      Hi,

my main purpose is to get a clear sound for the music I am listening. I don't listen to dance, techno or similar genres so I don't want to get rid of the roof

I ended up buying this receiver http://www.uk.onkyo.com/en/products/tx-sr313-75901.html - the only small problem is that in the manual says "You can connect speakers with an impedance of between 6 and 16 ohms." and my two Piega S3 sat have 4 ohms, but until now it did not seem to be a problem.

For the start I connected the two S3 sat speakers directly to the receiver and not to the subwoofer. Should I try and use one of the connection suggested in the manual http://www.piega.ch/download/PIEGA_B...PS2_e_Web1.pdf

      Thank you

It is O.K. to connect the speakers to the receiver - don´t worry about the impedance!
Now you can use the bass management of the receiver to set the crossover frequency for an optimal adjustement. With the small S3 I would use a high crossover frequency, at minimum 80 Hz, perhaps even higher...

And having an AV-Receiver, the good connection-method is to have cable between Subwoofer/LFE-Output of the receiver and LFE-Input of the Subwoofer: keep the S3's connected to the Receiver, and use the Onkyo-manual to learn how to adjust the Crossover-frequency.

With an AV-Receiver you HAVE Subwoofer-Output and adjustable Crossover-frequency. The other connection-options are only for the tormented creatures without these 2 key-features 😃
